  1. Any idea when we might see the windows version appearing? Feeling quite eager to see the new version!

  2. Hi Alex,

no date yet, but a lot of the work we are doing with our online tools will end up in the Windows version (and there’ll be some developments very likely to debut in the Windows version)

stay tuned, and thanks as always

  3. Cool. Sounds good. Really looking forward to it. Things are feeling a little sluggish or something with the old 4.6 so I can’t wait for a refresh :)

I’d love to see a subscribe to comments option on the Stylemaster blog by the way:

    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/subscribe-to-comments/

Even thought it’s meant to only be compatible up to 2.3.1 it still works well on a variety of WP sites I’ve got up and going.

    Cheers,

    Alex!

  4. Hi Alex,

you can actually already do that (at least in some browsers). In the RSS button in the address bar of the browser, there should be an option to subscribe to comments
    thanks

  5. Amusingly I am subscribed to the RSS of this one :)

But I quite like just ticking a box and knowing any responses will be mailed to me. I know if I just add it to Google Reader there’s a good chance I’ll miss it, so I end up copying the RSS URL and adding it to my Thunderbird feeds, which is grand, but I think I like offering the email subscription option as well.

It’s quite nice and you can view information on subscriptions etc.

Anyway, anything which distracts you from Stylemaster 5 for windows is a bad thing! So I’ll stop distracting you :)

    Hi,

As I have moved over to Linux, my 4.6 Windows version is collecting dust most of the time.

As OSX share a lot of the foundation with Linux, I am hoping that there will be a Linux version sometime in the not too distant future :-)

Any chance of that? From what I have seen, it should actually be possible to program StyleMaster in Qt and then easily deliver it on all platforms almost at the same time… THAT would be something!!

  7. Hi Svein,

while it’s technically possible to do a Linux version, the resources required compared with the demand simply don’t justify that effort at present I’m afraid.

The history of the development of Style Master is complicated – we ironically use a solution on the Mc that can also target windows and Linux. But, the devil’s in the details. When we started this rewrite in 2002, we decided to go with a different development environment for Windows (which is not entirely incompatible). And of curse, there’s always many platform specific gotchas with any sufficiently sophisticated application. For example, we embed Webkit on the Mac and IE on Windows, which have sufficiently different DOMs and ways of interfacing the application that there’s a lot of work to keep these in step.

Its definitely a great ideal though . Mind you, if we were to do a really big rewrite now, I’d almost certainly use HTML/CSS/JavaScript! That way Style Master would run on everything!

  8. Hi John,

Just thought as it’s been a few months since the last update I’d check in and see how things are shaping up on the windows version?

Very excited to see what’s to come!

    Cheers,

    Alex
